Natural Leadership | Evolutionary Psychology | Wild Horses
My Story
Everything you see here — wild horse insights, reflections on leadership, gentle guidance — started with one question: What if our horses already know what we forgot? — Hi, I’m Britta, counsellor, mediator, lifelong horse lover, and here I share what wild horses taught me about trust, presence, and leading in a way that feels natural.
Hi, I’m Britta
Like you, I’ve always dreamed of a peaceful and natural connection with my horse — built on trust, not control. That dream took me on a long journey through psychology, leadership, and wild horse behavior. Today, I teach a calm and intuitive approach to horse-human relationships based on mutual respect and real presence.
I’m a registered counsellor in Canada, mediator, and certified in Wild Horse Behavior and Equine Facilitated Wellness, and deeply inspired by the social dynamics of wild herds. My approach blends science, emotion, body language — and a whole lot of empathy.
Through Being Herd, I guide horse lovers and gentle leaders step into their true power — without dominance, pressure, or pretending to be someone they’re not. Whether you’re guiding your horse, your family, or your team — your leadership matters.
Let’s make it feel good, honest, and deeply natural.

About Me
I’ve always loved horses, but as a teenager, I stopped riding because I couldn’t stand how they were treated. Years later, I returned to the horse world — and while I saw some progress, I was still told I had to be the boss and more dominant. But that’s just not who I am.
So I turned to gentler methods like R+, and that led to a great relationship with my mustang mare, Cinder. She was engaged, curious, and enjoyed being with me. But I struggled to take her out alone for a walk — or actually, to any place that felt even slightly unfamiliar or scary, as she quickly became nervous and reactive. So I avoided those situations and stuck to what was familiar 🫣
But I kept searching. And along the way, I tried many approaches: Natural Horsemanship, Ribbleton, Trust Technique, Horsefulness, and more. Some helped; others, not so much. Yet one thing remained: Cinder was reactive whenever faced with an unsettling situation.
Today
But everything changed when I began studying wild horse behavior — first through a three-year masterclass with Marc Lubetzki, who lives among them as part of the herd, and later through firsthand observations of their interactions. I watched how they built trust, set boundaries, and led through connection rather than control — patterns that mirrored how humans evolved to relate, something I’d spent years studying.
What I learned and saw made everything click. It helped me understand what my own horses had been trying to tell me all along — and why so many methods I’d tried had failed because they ignored the innate relational language I was now seeing in wild herds.
From there, I began weaving together these two worlds: the natural rhythms of wild horses with principles from evolutionary psychology, attachment theory, and conflict resolution. And that is how Being Herd was born — a framework where equine and human social intelligence meet, creating a shared language of emotional clarity and collaborative leadership.
